A large collection of public health data including sources on AIDs, births, cancer, mortality, STDs and vaccine information.

Health and Medical Care Archive
“The data collections in HMCA include surveys of health care professionals and organizations, investigations of access to medical care, surveys on substance abuse, and evaluations of innovative programs for the delivery of health care.”

Health and Retirement Study.
“The HRS surveys more than 22,000 Americans over the age of 50 every two years. The study paints an emerging portrait of an aging America’s physical and mental health, insurance coverage, financial status, family support systems, labor market status, and retirement planning.” A wide range of public data is available as well as restricted data products available under specific contractual conditions.

National Health Interview Survey
The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics provides this survey which is a source of information on the ‘civilian noninstitutionalized population’ of the United States. A major strength of this survey lies in the ability to display health characteristics by many demographic and socioeconomic characteristics.

National Health and Nutrition Examination Series
These surveys were designed to obtain information on the health and nutritional status of the United States population. Includes three surveys conducted between 1970 and 1994, a hispanic version of the survey and an epidemoiologic follow-up to the first survey.

National Immunization Survey
A yearly survey being in 1995 the NIS tracks individual states’ percentages of properly vaccinated children on a number of different vaccines. The data includes types of immunizations, dates of administration and vaccination facility characteristics.

Panel Study of Income Dynamics
“The PSID is a nationally representative longitudinal study of nearly 9,000 U.S. families. Following the same families and individuals since 1968, the PSID collects data on economic, health, and social behavior.”

Substance Abuse & Mental Health Data Archive
“The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) promotes the access and use of the nation’s preeminent substance abuse and mental health research data by assuring accurate public use data files and documentation to support a better understanding of this critical area of public health. Our data include the U.S. general and special populations, annual series, and designs that produce nationally representative estimates. Some of the data acquired and archived under SAMHDA have never before been publicly distributed.”

World Health Organization
The WHO’s collection of data includes national statistics, data on chronic diseases, infectious disease information at country, regional and global levels, mortality and more.
